actually, the bacteria isnt secreting anything, if it was, it would just be asking the WBC to kill it. since bacterium are diff. organisms than humans, their bodies are coated with diff. proteins than the cells of our bodies. our immune system is designed to recognize anything that is foreign(coated with diff. proteins )and attack it. the neutrophils cell follows the the chemicals that are coating the surface of the bacteria. hope this helped.

It’s all due to cell signalling. there is a peptide (formylated Met-Leu-Phe) which uses G-protein coupled receptors. This peptide on the bacterium signals the neutrophil for phagocytosis.

the bacteria secretes some chemical that is foreign to its system thus attracting its attention which explain the chase.
